Why obtain a Cert 4 Training and Assessment

If you would like to become a trainer in the vocational education and training (VET) sector, you will need to consider getting a Cert 4 Training and Assessment. In 2015, ASQA released the new standards for RTOs which explain new requirements for VET Trainers and assessors who deliver any Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification or skill set from the Training and Education Training Package.

As part of the new Standards, all accredited training and assessment may only be delivered by trainers and assessors who have a Cert 4 Training and Assessment. There are some options for a Cert 4 Training and Assessment such as TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or its successor, or a diploma in Training and Assessment or higher level qualification in adult education.

Without Cert 4 Training and Assessment, you won’t be able to train or assess accredited units of competency within RTOs environment.

How to choose an RTO for your Cert IV in Training and Assessment

You can obtain your Cert 4 Training and Assessment from any RTO which has the required level of qualification on its scope. However, you need to be mindful of the ways Cert 4 Training and Assessment is delivered. It is critical to check the conditions of your training before you enrol into a course such as:
• the mode of delivery
• time frame for delivery
• the way in which assessment will be carried out
• if there are any out-of-pocket fees for the learning resources or in case you miss the class, submit an overdue assignment or for resubmission.
